Berkowitz and Hanna LLC oversees wrongful death lawsuits and therefore consistently monitors news relating to similar cases across the United States. Wrongful death lawsuits are civil cases that refer to the preventable death of an individual, resulting from another person’s negligent or reckless behavior. The surviving relatives of the deceased are entitled to compensation for damages and suffering incurred.
The Huffington Post has reported that the family of Michael Brown is looking into filing a wrongful death lawsuit against the city of Ferguson, Missouri, and former Ferguson Police Officer Darren Wilson. The announcement is said to have come the day after the US Department of Justice officially announced its decision not to file federal charges against Wilson for the fatal shooting of Brown last July.
An attorney for Brown’s family was quoted as saying that a civil case will be filed shortly, with the intent to show that Officer Wilson’s choice to use deadly force “was unreasonable and unnecessary.”
With litigation in this high profile case pending, Berkowitz and Hanna LLC will continue to monitor the status of this potential lawsuit.
