Russ Berkowitz and Kelly Ferraro have filed a wrongful death medical malpractice case in Bridgeport Superior Court against Bridgeport Hospital on behalf of the estate of a 61 year old client who died of cardiac arrest following his aspiration of vomit while alone in his hospital room.
According to Ferraro, “our client had complained to a floor nurse of shortness of breath, nausea, and inability to keep his food down approximately two hours before his arrest. However, she and a resident, who was also aware of our client’s complaints, failed to contact a surgeon for an emergent evaluation despite our client previously being treated for a gastrointestinal obstruction earlier in his admission.”
According to the lawsuit, had a surgeon been called by the nurse or resident hospitalist to evaluate our client, he would have discovered that our client had redeveloped an obstruction and a nasogastric tube could have been inserted into his stomach to assist with his feeding.
Following our client’s arrest, he was without oxygen for a substantial period of time despite resuscitative measures. Our client sustained a catastrophic brain injury, his organs shut down, and he subsequently died.
