Berkowitz Hanna knows that medical malpractice and negligence can involve a number of factors including wrong site surgery and the misreading of x-rays or other medical test results. The firm has found such an example involving an urologist who lost a medical malpractice lawsuit resulting from the unnecessary surgical removal of a woman’s kidney.
According to an article in the St. Louis Post Dispatch, Dr. J. Perry Lovinggood, the defendant, told the woman that a “suspicious image” of the now-removed kidney indicated cancer. Yet, the lawsuit claims that the urologist did not order more specific testing. The woman’s attorney was quoted as saying the removed kidney was not cancerous. The jury awarded her $240,000.
