The Berkowitz Law Firm LLC Highlights Verdict in Nyack Hospital Lawsuit

Written by Berkowitz

Berkowitz and Hanna LLC knows from its extensive experience in medical malpractice lawsuits is that they can involve a doctor’s failure to correctly read and act upon the results of a diagnostic test.

Recently, the firm came across a case against an orthopedic surgeon at Nyack Hospital in New York. As reported in New York Legal Examiner, a jury found this doctor to be liable in failing to properly react to the plaintiff’s infection and treat it in a timely manner.

The plaintiff’s lawyer alleged that the results of a culture test administered to his client at the hospital had shown that his infection was serious, but his client was sent home. Two days later, he was rushed back to the hospital. The plaintiff claimed, by that time, that the infection had caused significant damage to his hip. Three months later, he had to have hip replacement surgery.

In its verdict, the jury awarded $2.3 million to the plaintiff. Berkowitz and Hanna LLC notes this story as an example of how hospital mistakes can lead to injuries and be the basis of a medical malpractice lawsuit.

Note: Berkowitz and Hanna LLC did not represent any of the parties in this case.
