Through extensively advising on medical malpractice lawsuits, Berkowitz and Hanna LLC knows that these cases can result from any slight yet serious incident that might occur during a patient’s care. A minor slip or a major fall that happens while under medical supervision can have serious consequences for an individual as well as for the physician or facility treating him or her.

The Louisiana Record reported a case involving an elderly woman who has filed suit against both the Eastern Jefferson General Hospital in Metairie and Jefferson Parish Hospital Service District. The plaintiff, Virginia C. Roppolo, who was a patient at the hospital, alleges that she broke her hip while under its care.

According to the article, Roppolo was undergoing a psychological evaluation at the hospital – she had previously been diagnosed with dementia –and was brought in due to experiencing hallucinations. She claims she was considered a fall risk and was “allowed to fall” while in the defendant’s care. Furthermore, Roppolo said the fall caused her to break her hip and need required surgery.

The legal experts at Berkowitz and Hanna LLC know that negligence on the part of the hospital can be a case of injury to patients and is often the basis of medical malpractice lawsuits.

Please note: Berkowitz and Hanna LLC did not represent any of the parties in this case.
