Kristoff St. John Wrongful Death

At Berkowitz and Hanna LLC, the firm’s legal experts oversee wrongful death claims, which refer to an incident in which someone’s negligent or reckless behavior resulted in the death of another person.

For a wrongful death claim to be successful, the death must be caused completely or partially by the defendant(s) and that the defendant(s) must have acted negligently or recklessly.

The law firm has come across news via Radar about “The Young and the Restless” actor Kristoff St. John and his wife, Mia, who are preparing to file a wrongful death claim against La Casa Mental Health Hospital in California over the death of their son, Julian, who died there in late November 2014. Though their son’s death preliminarily had been ruled as a suicide, the couple believes it was a homicide because Julian said he was afraid that another patient would hurt him. An anonymous source states that the couple wants to see the facility’s security video to support their theory.

In addition to determining whether other people were “going in and out” of Julian’s room, the video could show if the hospital’s staff did not check on Julian for hours despite him being placed on a “precautionary” suicide watch. This watch required someone to look in on him every 15 minutes.

At the time the article was published, an attorney for the St. John family stated that the wrongful death suit would be filed shortly. Berkowitz and Hanna LLC will follow this case.

Please note: Berkowitz and Hanna LLC does not represent any of the parties in this case.
