The Berkowitz Law Firm LLC Reports On Beanie Wells Malpractice Case

Written by Berkowitz

Chris “Beanie” Wells, a former Ohio State and NFL football player, has filed a lawsuit against his doctors for medical malpractice and fraud. Berkowitz and Hanna LLC has learned that Wells has sued several Columbus, Ohio-area physicians for botched surgery and for fraud for giving a false diagnosis “with utter disregard and recklessness.”

One of the doctors, Gregory Berlet, operated on Wells in October of 2013 after the running back tore his Achilles tendon. In March of 2014 the physician reviewed an MRI of the Achilles tendon and said Wells was ready to play again. In the lawsuit, Wells claims that Berlet “concealed from Wells that his Achilles was not repaired or intact, but rather was structurally compromised and in danger of a complete rupture.” Later, Wells did indeed suffer a complete rupture.

The suit seeks compensation of more than $25,000 plus punitive damages. Berkowitz and Hanna LLC has over forty years of experience litigating medical malpractice cases. It will be interesting to see if, in Mr. Wells’ case, the claim for fraud—on top of negligence and recklessness—will stand.

Berkowitz and Hanna LLC did not represent any of the parties in this case.
