Anesthesia-related medical malpractice, which can occur at any time during the surgical process (pre-op, in the operating room, post-op) can cause personal injury: pain, damage to teeth, organs and nerves, cardiopulmonary arrest, and—in extreme cases—death. Berkowitz and Hanna LLC is reporting on a recent anesthesia medical malpractice claim in Gretna, Louisiana, where the plaintiff is suing a local hospital for permanent damage to his spinal nerves.
Corey Brisco underwent shoulder surgery at Ochsner Medical Center Kenner in Gretna, Louisiana. Anesthesia had been administered, allegedly in an effort to block his nerves. Brisco claims that not only was the anesthesia performed without his informed consent, the anesthesia block was negligently positioned, subsequently injuring the network of nerves connecting to his spine.
The plaintiff is seeking an unspecified amount for “physical pain and suffering, mental anguish, lost wages, medical costs, permanent disability and disfigurement.” He is suing the State of Louisiana, acting representative for the Board of Supervisors of Louisiana State University and Agriculture and Mechanical College, on behalf of a consortium of people – three doctors, the Ochsner Medical Center Kenner, LSU Health Sciences Center, and LSU Health Care Services Services. The firm has expertise in all areas of medical malpractice law, including anesthesia injuries.
