Russ Berkowitz has filed a wrongful death medical malpractice lawsuit against Western Connecticut Medical Group and one of its Internal Medicine physicians on behalf of the estate of a client who died of end-stage liver disease after his doctors failed to diagnose and treat his fatty liver disease for over a 5 year period and failed to advise our client regarding his liver disease over said time frame despite multiple lab studies over that time which revealed significantly elevated liver enzymes. Because our client was unaware of his chronic liver disease, he was unable to timely get on a liver transplant list that would have saved his life. Our client, a 52 year old retired Danbury police detective, suffered a painful death following an emergency hospital admission where he was diagnosed with his chronic liver disease. Ultimately, after he was transferred to Yale with the hope of a transplant, our client’s condition deteriorated to the extent that he went into multi-organ failure which caused him to go into respiratory arrest. He was subsequently placed on artificial life support but taken off life support when it was determined there was no hope for recovery.
