Parents File Medical Malpractice Lawsuit over Daughter’s Death

Written by Berkowitz

The parents of a young doctor who died last year filed a medical malpractice lawsuit against the hospital where she sought treatment shortly before her death. According to the lawsuit, Dr. Jennifer Sidari, 26, died from a blood clot that should have been easily detected.

The lawsuit claims that Sidari sought treatment from Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center after experiencing headaches for ten days. The lawsuit alleges that the doctors failed to detect a blood clot that eventually caused massive cerebral hemorrhaging, a stroke and irreversible brain damage. The blood clot, according to the suit, could have easily been detected if the doctors ordered a head imaging study.

The staff did conduct tests and gave Sidari medication for the pain, but didn’t have her see a neurologist until 40 hours after she was admitted to the hospital. At that point, according to the medical malpractice suit, it was too late.

Sidari was first treated at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center in Plains Twp. and was transferred to Geisinger Medical Center in Danville two days later when her condition took a turn for the worst. A couple days later, she died.

Sidari’s parents filed the lawsuit against at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center in Plains Twp. and Geisinger Medical Center in Danville and seeks to find out who is responsible for their daughter’s death.

According to the lawsuit, if Sidari was properly treated and diagnosed, she would still be alive, fulfilling her dream of being a pediatrician. She graduated in the inaugural class of the Commonwealth Medical College in Scranton on May 11, 2013 and died on May 29, 2013.
