Berkowitz and Hanna LLC is keeping an eye on immigration reform in Connecticut. Locally, undocumented immigrants are unsure how this will affect them.
Under an executive order announced in 2012, the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals restricted the program’s participants to those under the age of 31 as of June 15, 2012. The more-recent order removed the age limits. Those under DACA are eligible for work permits and relief from deportation, but DACA is not amnesty.
Alicia Kinsman of the International Institute of Connecticut was quoted as saying, “”We are looking forward to a resolution and hoping sooner rather than later … because there are so many vulnerable immigrants in our state who are struggling now and need be protected from deportation so they can stay with their families.”
As the law around immigration continues to change, Berkowitz and Hanna LLC will keep updating this blog.
