As a medical malpractice firm, Berkowitz and Hanna LLC takes breaking medical news seriously. Today the firm reports on a recent article about a young woman who died of sepsis. Sepsis is a life-threatening reaction to an infection.
ABC News reported that twenty-six year old newlywed Kate McQuestion caught the flu in December. On New Year’s day she was admitted to the hospital with a high heart rate, low blood pressure and a low temperature. According to her mother, about twelve hours later sepsis had set in and “it was too late.” Her organs began to fail and she died on January 2nd.
Berkowitz and Hanna LLC knows that flu can progress to pneumonia and lead to sepsis. The article quoted Dr. William Schaffner of Vanderbilt University Medical Center as saying, “Usually pneumonia infection is confined to the lungs, but on occasion it can be so bad that the bacteria leave the lungs and get into the blood stream.”
If you have shortness of breath, are coughing up yellow or green or bloody mucus, please see a doctor.
Berkowitz and Hanna LLC did not represent any of the parties in the above report.
