Having extensive expertise in elder abuse cases, Berkowitz and Hanna LLC is proud to learn that the Connecticut Better Business Bureau has become a member of the coordinating council of the Coalition for Elder Justice in Connecticut.
The firm acknowledges that this appointment is an important one. It brings further attention to a specific type of eldercare abuse: financial victimization. The elderly are often prime targets for scams such as financial fraud, identity theft and dishonest business practices. One current scam is the “Grandparent Scam,” in which impersonators call an elderly person, asking them to send money right away. They claim to be the person’s “grandchild” or “loved one” and say that they’re allegedly in jail or some serious trouble.
In a FOX CT story, Connecticut BBB spokesperson Howard Schwartz discussed how this coalition aims to pull state agencies together to identify, stop, and prevent elder abuse as well as to get the appropriate resources to victims of fraud right away.
As a Connecticut-based legal firm, Berkowitz and Hanna LLC also believes in doing its part to spot and stop elder abuse throughout the state.
