Russ Berkowitz has settled a medical malpractice wrongful death action against a Connecticut hospital on behalf of the estate of a client who died following a post-operative mixup in the PACU where our client was inserted with a “latex” Foley catheter which caused her to develop an allergic reaction to said latex. Unfortunately, our client’s allergic reaction progressed to anaphylactic shock, and she subsequently died from complications associated with her anaphylaxis.
According to Berkowitz, “our client’s allergy to latex was well documented in her hospital chart, but the post-operative team failed to review her chart before inserting her with a latex Foley catheter. The cascade of events that followed, which ultimately led to her death, was horrible.”
