At Berkowitz and Hanna LLC, our personal injury and medical malpractice lawyers are dedicated to helping individuals who have suffered as a result of the negligence or misconduct of others obtain justice, but we believe that our responsibility to our community runs even deeper than that. Berkowitz and Hanna Charitable Fund was established by the firm to aid local non-for-profit organizations whose mission is to assist infants, teens, and adults with developmental disabilities, mental illness, and women and children at risk. Each year, we are proud to provide financial support to our growing list of organizations that tirelessly provide help to those who need it the most.

Connecticut’s largest provider of residential services for people with both physical and developmental disabilities. Founded in 1953 by dedicated parents aiming to enhance the lives of their disabled children, Ability Beyond Disability helps disabled individuals find suitable housing, employment, and the support they need to live full and satisfying lives.

ARI (Always Reaching for Independence) provide a full range of programs and services for children and adults with developmental disabilities, including residential programs, day programs, employment, education, and school-to-life transitional programs.

STAR, Inc. is a full service organization for infants, children, and adults with autism and other developmental disabilities.

CLASP Homes

CLASP operates a number of residential houses for people with developmental disabilities in Westport and surrounding towns. Since 1982, the group has created 13 homes and an apartment program to help disabled individuals increase their independence and live more rewarding lives.

Kids in Crisis provides emergency shelter, crisis counseling, and community education programs for children of all ages and families dealing with a wide range of crises, including domestic violence, mental health, family problems, substance abuse and more. Last year alone, Kids in Crisis helped 5,913 children and their families.
