As a Connecticut legal practice, Berkowitz and Hanna LLC is interested in legal news that hits close to home. Today we’re providing an update on the wrongful death lawsuit relating to the Sandy Hook Elementary School shootings that took place in Newtown, CT.
As we previously reported, ten families of victims of the mass shooting filed a lawsuit in state court in Bridgeport against Camfour Inc, a firearms distributor, Riverview Gun Sales, and Remington Outdoor Co., the owner of Bushmaster Firearms International. The defendants requested that the case be moved to federal court, and just last week the request was granted. The case will now be heard in federal court.
Getting the case into the 2nd Circuit may be beneficial for the defendants. The Connecticut Post quoted Timothy Lytton, a law professor, as saying “The 2nd Circuit has previously refused to hold gun manufacturers liable or permit lawsuits against gun manufacturers for injuries caused by third parties.”
Berkowitz and Hanna LLC will keep updating this important legal news story on this blog.
Note: Berkowitz and Hanna LLC did not represent any of the parties in this case.
