Music Festival

Berkowitz and Hanna LLC knows that auto accidents can cause pain and damage to innocent parties. When negligence is involved, the injured parties (or their families) are entitled to recover damages. In March, at the famous SXSW music festival, a driver fleeing police killed four people and injured 20 others. Now, according to Time Magazine, the first group of lawsuits relating to that incident have been filed. Interestingly, it is not just the driver being sued for negligence.

The plaintiffs, eight victims including the families of three who died, allege personal injury and/or wrongful death and name the driver, festival organizers and a local engineering company as responsible parties. According to Time, “The suits, which seek unspecified damages, allege that organizers should have considered the event might put pedestrians in danger as the city is known for a culture, of sorts, of public celebration.”

Berkowitz and Hanna LLC notes that the driver has already been charged with multiple counts of murder and aggravated assault. The civil claims against him should be easier to prove than the claims against the organizers of SXSW and the engineering company.

Note: Berkowitz and Hanna LLC did not represent any of the parties in this case.
