Berkowitz and Hanna LLC has learned that Joan Rivers’ daughter is considering filing a lawsuit against Yorkville Endoscopy based on the wrongful death of her famous mother.
Melissa Rivers has engaged a New York city law firm to file a wrongful death suit against the upper East Side clinic where the comic went into cardiac arrest during a procedure in August. The case is likely to be based on medical malpractice, as the city’s Medical Examiner found that the comedian’s oxygen supply was cut off while undergoing a procedure at the clinic. Rivers visited the clinic to undergo an endoscopy to evaluate “voice changes and gastroesophageal reflux disease.” Rivers went into a coma and died one week after the procedure.
Berkowitz and Hanna LLC understands that medical malpractice and negligence in even routine procedures can happen in a variety of ways, ranging from doctor mistakes to improper techniques. Mistakes made by medical professionals can lead to irreversible, traumatic injuries and even a wrongful death. The firm will keep an eye on Melissa Rivers’ case and continue to report developments.
