Russ Berkowitz and Jennifer Amdur have just resolved a wrongful death medical malpractice case on behalf of the estate of a female client who died a horrific death following post weight loss surgical complications. The case involved the failure of the defendant surgeon, hospital, and other medical providers to timely diagnose and treat our client’s life-threatening post-surgical leak. As a result of the defendants’ negligence, our client went into septic shock and required life-saving surgeries. Unfortunately, her condition progressively deteriorated over the course of the next several years despite having to undergo multiple surgeries, medications, and treatments. In addition, our client remained on a feeding tube throughout her entire post-surgical period and was intubated in the hospital for much of the time over those years. Our client’s condition never improved and eventually all her organs failed and she died. At the time of her death, our client weighed 75 lbs. She is survived by her husband and son. The terms of the settlement are confidential.
