A birth injury can result when any type of damage to a baby’s body occurs before, during, or shortly after his/her birth. Recently the firm came across a $12 million cerebral palsy lawsuit in Calgary filed by the parents of a now toddler girl.
Reported by Injury Lawyer News, the lawsuit names Alberta Health Services, High River Hospital, five doctors and six nurses as defendants and alleges that they were negligent in the baby’s care and failed to respond to the needs of the mother and child. The article explains that the child was essentially “non-responsive” for a period of time after her birth and was diagnosed as suffering from oxygen deprivation to the brain, among other conditions. The parents claim that, as a result of this deprivation, their child now suffers quadriplegic cerebral palsy.
Should the family win, Berkowitz and Hanna LLC knows that compensatory damages could aid in the child’s medical costs and personal care.
