postal vehicleBerkowitz and Hanna LLC provides legal counsel on wrongful death claims, and sometimes the cases involve commercial or company-owned vehicle accidents. Whether as a passenger or pedestrian, an individual’s death can result completely or partially from the defendant(s) negligent or reckless actions while using this vehicle.

OC Weekly has reported on a $60 million wrongful death suit filed by the family of an elderly woman who was run over and killed by a U.S. Postal Service truck in October 2013. The late Mary Honda was said to have been placing mail in her mailbox at her home when postman Adam Stewart Rojas struck her with his mail truck.

The lawsuit alleges that Rojas ran Honda over several times and caused serious trauma. According to Orange County police records, Rojas called for aid after the accident. Honda succumbed to her injuries at a hospital hours later.

An attorney for Honda’s family stated that both the U.S. Postal Service and Rojas were negligent in Honda’s death. He also had confronted the postal service with these claims in July 2014 but no response was given. Both parties have been ordered into pre-trial meditation negotiations, a standard procedure in federal court.

The firm knows that an incident like this presents a complicated set of facts, and will continue to follow news on this particular case.
