A medical malpractice lawsuit has been filed on behalf of a family who lost a mother of three and a wife. According to the lawsuit, a Chilton Hospital Emergency Room doctor failed to provide adequate treatment for patient Laura Coniglio, who died after falling and hitting her head.

The lawsuit claims that Coniglio went to the emergency room on December 21, 2008 after hitting her head. The CT scan of her brain showed internal bleeding, according to the suit. The lawsuit claims that because Coniglio was not treated in timely manner, she fell into a coma.

She died later after her family decided to take her off life support. The family is accusing Dr. Gennaro Marino of negligent care. The doctor claims that he treated her with acceptable standards of care and argues that the patient had already been suffering from neurological conditions.

The trial is set to resume Thursday, April 26, 2012.
