The Berkowitz Law Firm LLC Studies Verdict in Boy’s Medical Injury at Birth

Written by Berkowitz

As a medical malpractice firm, Berkowitz and Hanna LLC has seen many cases where medical mistakes have resulted in serious, irreversible injuries such as cerebral palsy. The firm has come across a related example involving a lawsuit in Gainesville, Georgia and its verdict.

The Gainesville Times reported on a jury’s ruling that Northeast Georgia Medical Center must award $8.4 million to the family of a boy who was diagnosed with cerebral palsy, which allegedly resulted from an injury at his 2008 birth.

According to the article, the lawsuit states that the boy, now 5, suffered from a delayed delivery, which required immediate resuscitation. A tube to help him breathe was not inserted until eight minutes after his delivery. At the time of the delivery, the center’s main resuscitation team was assisting with another Cesarean. A back-up team was not alerted.

Berkowitz and Hanna LLC often counsels and represents families of children with cerebral palsy that may have been caused by medical malpractice. In this case, the $8.4 million award seems just. Proceeds from that monetary award will establish a trust that will help finance the boy’s long-term care.

Note: Berkowitz and Hanna LLC did not represent any of the parties in this case.
